From June 13-15, Chicago welcomed the commercial interior design industry’s largest event, NeoCon to the city’s historic center to discuss the future of office space. Representatives from AGI engaged designers, architects, manufacturers, and influencers on how that future must include glass, and about how AGI contractors and craftspeople can help bring that future into the present.
For those unfamiliar with the show that attracts thousands, many who traveled from our region, NeoCon serves as a massive hands-on showcase of today’s trends and an aspirational look at what is on the horizon for the future of office environments – from desks, chairs, sound panels, white boards, and team huddle spaces for pharma and finance offices to beds, recliners, and nursing stations for healthcare facilities. AGI representatives were pleased to see many of these spaces included innovations in glass, including electric privacy glass (also known as “smart glass” or “switch glass”) in new colors and patterns, endless frit patterns and interlayers, new glass handrail systems, writing surfaces, and even glass pods that allow for everything from privacy to increased health benefits. AGI representatives spent days speaking with manufacturer representatives about customization, installation best practices, and workforce availability. It was an extremely valuable opportunity and AGI encourages its contractor members to consider attending for themselves in the future.
